GOL launches first intercontinental Airbus flight from Galeão

GOL’s first intercontinental Airbus service

GOL Linhas Aéreas’ first intercontinental flight has departed from Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport. It is also the airline’s first service operated with Airbus jets.

Known for making air travel more accessible in Brazil, GOL has historically operated only Boeing 737 aircraft. The carrier has now moved into a new phase by launching long-haul international operations from Galeão and establishing a hub at Rio de Janeiro’s airport.

New York flights from Rio de Janeiro–Galeão

Using an Airbus A330-200 operated by Wamos Air, the Spanish charter airline and a sister company within the Abra Group, GOL began flights to New York on Wednesday, 8 July. Lisbon services will follow shortly afterwards.

In the future, these routes will be flown by A330neo aircraft previously operated by Azul, with GOL’s own crews.

The aircraft left Galeão at 22:15, after a slight delay, and is expected to arrive at New York’s JFK Airport at 08:12. The flight can be followed live in the window below:
