Emirates and GE Aerospace sign engine repair agreement

Emirates has announced the signing of an agreement with GE Aerospace covering technical consultancy and training to develop in-house repair capabilities for individual GE90 and GP7200 engine components, used on the airline’s Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft respectively.

The agreement was signed by Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, and Mohamed Ali, President and Chief Executive of GE Aerospace’s Commercial Engines and Services division, at a ceremony at Emirates Group headquarters in Dubai.

Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre expansion

According to the airline, the partnership forms part of the expansion of the Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre (EEMC), which will receive US$300 million in investment to increase its infrastructure and aircraft-engine maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities.

Through the agreement, Emirates will receive specialist support from GE Aerospace in establishing its component-repair process. EEMC technical teams will also be trained, with an emphasis on implementing international aviation industry practices and standards.

“We are delighted to take a strategic step towards expanding our engine repair capabilities, investing in infrastructure and partnering with GE Aerospace to support our vision for world-class engine repair and maintenance,” said Adel Al Redha.

GE90 and GP7200 repair training

The executive added that the partnership would be important in developing the airline’s workforce for repairs to the GE90 and GP7200 engines powering Emirates’ Boeing 777 aircraft and part of its Airbus A380 fleet.

“The agreement with GE Aerospace will be instrumental in providing our workforce with the specialised skills required to repair GE90 and GP7200 engine components powering our Boeing 777s and part of our Airbus A380 fleet. Combined with the expansion of our Engine Maintenance Centre in Dubai, this will position Emirates Engineering as a centre of excellence for engine repair, delivering efficient and uninterrupted engine maintenance for Emirates,” he stated.

Mohamed Ali said GE Aerospace regards Emirates as a strategic partner and underlined the manufacturer’s commitment to supporting the airline’s expanding maintenance capabilities.

Emirates Engineering fleet support

Emirates Engineering currently provides comprehensive engineering, line maintenance and base maintenance support for Emirates’ fleet of more than 270 Boeing 777, Airbus A380 and Airbus A350 aircraft. Established in 2014, the Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre carries out repair and maintenance work on the airline’s aircraft engines.
