ARA “Almirante Brown” sails from Ushuaia towards Valparaíso for UNITAS LXVII

The Argentine Navy destroyer ARA “Almirante Brown” (D-10) has sailed from Ushuaia to continue its voyage towards Valparaíso, Chile, on a route that will ultimately end at the port of El Callao, Peru. During September, the naval vessel will take part in the international SIFOREX XIV and UNITAS LXVII exercises, marking another stage of its deployment towards the Pacific Ocean.

ARA “Almirante Brown” departs Ushuaia for Valparaíso

The stopover in the Tierra del Fuego capital enabled the destroyer to replenish its logistical supplies, including fuel, provisions and water, before beginning the next legs of its voyage. The ship had arrived in Ushuaia on 18 August, after departing Puerto Belgrano Naval Base on 14 August as part of a preparation process involving several training and pre-deployment readiness activities.

While in Ushuaia, the “Almirante Brown” also welcomed a number of official visitors. These included members of the Ushuaia Malvinas War Veterans Centre, led by Juan Carlos Parodi, who served aboard the destroyer ARA “Piedrabuena” during the Falklands War. Local authorities and representatives of regional institutions also toured the vessel, learning about its facilities and sharing experiences with its crew.

Peru deployment and UNITAS LXVII exercises

The deployment to Peru is one of the Argentine Navy’s principal international commitments during the second half of 2026. UNITAS LXVII, hosted by Peru this year, will bring together naval forces from numerous countries and include activities designed to strengthen interoperability and coordination between participating units through a range of combined training scenarios.

In this regard, the commander of the ARA “Almirante Brown”, Commander Pablo Damián Moyano, had previously stated that the Argentine deployment would comprise approximately 225 personnel. This includes Marines, cyber-defence operators and amphibious commandos, who will participate in the planned UNITAS activities. The destroyer will therefore contribute not only a larger surface vessel to the Argentine contingent, but also personnel intended to broaden the capabilities tested during the exercise.
