A study has revealed the proportion of French people who already use AI for online dating.

Since 2022, the year ChatGPT launched, media outlets have discussed the use of generative artificial intelligence to reply to messages from matches on dating sites. Today, the practice appears to have become widespread, including in France. That is at least what a study by Nation.fr, whose findings were reported by Sud Radio, suggests. This summer, 37% said they use an AI tool such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or another service to help them attract someone.

AI assistance in online dating

The figure does not stop there: 29% of respondents said they could do the same. Put differently, two-thirds of people consider it normal to use artificial intelligence for a little support. The obvious issue, however, is that AI assistance may make online exchanges feel inauthentic, potentially leading to disappointment later on.

AI does more than write messages

Artificial intelligence is not used solely to help users compose messages during online dating. Among those who use it in this way, 49% also ask AI to interpret their interactions. If a date has been arranged, the technology can also help identify the ideal venue. The study additionally mentions generative AI being used to create a dating-site “bio” or to edit a profile picture.

From workplace AI to dating apps

While these findings may seem surprising, they are logical. By 2026, artificial intelligence is already widely relied upon at work, whether to manage and answer emails, produce documents or analyse information. In effect, some people have simply transferred tools they use professionally to their interactions on dating apps.
