OnePlus Nord 6: a 9,000mAh gaming smartphone with 2.5 days of battery life

OnePlus is teasing a mid-range smartphone designed for gaming, fitted with a 9,000mAh battery that is claimed to deliver up to 2.5 days of battery life.

Silicon-carbon technology now makes it possible to raise battery capacity without having too much impact on a device’s weight or size. A number of Chinese brands are already using this technology to extend their devices’ battery life, while Apple, Google and Samsung continue to rely on conventional batteries. Thanks to this approach, for instance, the OnePlus 15 has a 7,300mAh battery, allowing the handset to last for up to two days.

OnePlus’ next mid-range phone is set to take those battery-life gains even further. The OnePlus Nord 6 will be unveiled in India on 7 April, and the company has already started revealing parts of its specification sheet. It has confirmed, for example, that the smartphone will feature a 9,000mAh battery - more than twice the capacity of some smartphones. OnePlus says this battery should enable the OnePlus Nord 6 to achieve up to two and a half days of battery life.

An affordable OnePlus Nord 6 for gamers

Like the recent Poco X8 Pro and Poco X8 Pro Max, the OnePlus Nord 6 appears to be aimed at gamers. The brand has given the smartphone the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, a component for high-end phones released a year ago. According to OnePlus, it will support gaming at 165fps in BMGI, the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, as well as AAA-level titles.

There is currently no information about the smartphone’s availability in Europe. However, Android Authority reports that, although OnePlus Nord models are not generally sold in the United States, the OnePlus Nord 6 may be released in Europe and the United Kingdom. Rumours suggest that its EU price could be €449. In any case, its specification sheet suggests that the OnePlus Nord 6 is intended to revive OnePlus’ “flagship killer” spirit - an affordable alternative to high-end devices.
